I want to run leds through the mains. apparently i need a transformer? someone help me...

From:

leds are dc devices so you need a rectifier, a fuse and a current limiter (resister). at 230v (lethal) via rectifier assume 391 volts dc (lethal), divide by the number of leds required assume 3.5v = 111 leds depending on colour calculate ballast resistor at approx15ma.
