these are typically not called LED's but "backlights" your laptops, monitor or other LCD displays are full of them! Larger sizes for low cost use compact edge lighting and florescence lamps with hight voltage drivers. These are hard for DIY. Better use is edge lit LED's and LCD lighting packages...
Many styles to choose from, your use varies by desired thickness. If you need THIN you need edge lighting. if a 'box' is OK than high output 100+lumen in 1-5W ranges with fresnel lenses are available aka a "projector" like a office LCD overhead or home theatre projector...
